One week left to have your say on proposals for prominence framework

Australians have just one week left to provide feedback on design options for a prominence framework, to ensure that Australian TV services can easily be found on connected TV devices.

The significant uptake of Smart TVs and other connected devices in Australian homes is creating a more challenging environment for local TV services which deliver content that contributes to Australia’s public and cultural life.

The Australian Government has committed to legislating a new prominence framework and is seeking views of interested parties to inform development and implementation. Views are now sought on the Prominence Framework for Connected TV Devices Proposals Paper.  

The Government is seeking feedback on a range of design issues, including:

1. which TV services should be included;
2. which devices should be regulated;
3. which entities should be responsible for compliance with the framework;
4. which regulatory model should be used; and
5. what legislative mechanism should be used to implement the framework.

The design of the framework is expected to be finalised by mid-2023, and will be followed by the drafting of legislation.

Public consultation closes on Friday, 24 February 2023.
