Short extension to the Optus Outage Post-Incident Review
Following receipt of new information from Optus in recent days, the Government has agreed to receive the final report of the Optus Outage Post-Incident Review by 21 March 2024.
The new information relates to Optus’ activation of network wilting, where signals from mobile towers are powered down in order for Triple Zero calls to be carried by other networks, particularly for 3G signals.
The final report was due to be handed to Government by the end of February 2024.
Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP, initiated the Review immediately after the national whole-of-network outage on 8 November 2023.
The Review seeks to support the telecommunications industry to improve outage related processes, and identify other improvements for Government and regulators to consider.
The Government will consider the final report upon its receipt on 21 March and make it public in due course after this date.
