More Queenslanders than ever before can now access faster NBN speeds

Faster and more reliable broadband speeds on the National Broadband Network (NBN) are now available to more Queenslanders than ever before, as a result of full-fibre upgrades funded by the Australian Government.

More than 500,000 Queensland households and businesses can now order a full-fibre NBN upgrade, including around 225,000 in Greater Brisbane. The upgrade footprint includes households in some of Queensland’s most data-hungry suburbs – including Logan and Redlands – meaning more families can access the technology they need to work, learn and play from home.

Around 68 per cent of Queensland’s fixed-line households and small businesses can now access the NBN’s fastest speeds as a result, with this number set to grow to 90 per cent in the next two years.

The upgrades are available on-demand if an eligible customer takes out an eligible higher speed plan through their Retail Service Provider.

The Albanese Government is committed to improving the NBN so that more Australians can take advantage of high quality and fast broadband.

The October 2022 Budget invested $2.4 billion to expand full-fibre NBN access to an additional 1.5 million premises – over 660,000 of which will be in rural and regional communities across Australia.

Expanding full-fibre access to more Australians complements the Albanese Government’s $480 million investment to upgrade the NBN Fixed Wireless network and the recent launch of a new satellite product now delivering uncapped data in the regions; a first for a residential NBN satellite service.

“Reliable, quality, high speed internet has become essential 21st century infrastructure; just like electricity and running water. That’s why the Albanese Government is delivering faster and more reliable fibre broadband to homes and businesses.

“500,000 premises across Queensland can already order an upgrade, and our Government is working hard to ensure even more households and businesses can enjoy the benefits of a fibre connection.

“Faster NBN speeds will allow the whole family to be online at the same time, whether it be videoconferencing for work, enjoying high definition movies or next level gaming.

“Whether it's fibre upgrades, investment in Fixed Wireless or new satellite products, the Albanese Government is delivering on its strong agenda for a better NBN.”
