Acting arrangements for Director of the Classification Board

Following the resignation of Ms Fiona Jolly, Mr Tristan Sharp has now commenced as acting Director of the Classification Board effective 11 January 2024.

Ms Jolly wrote to the Government in late December last year to advise she was resigning as Director of the Classification Board, effective 11 January 2024.

Having fulfilled the role for the past two years, Ms Jolly led the Board through a number of important and high-profile classification decisions, as well as the first phase of the Government’s classification reforms. The Government thanks Ms Jolly for her service, and wishes her well for her future endeavours.

Mr Tristan Sharp has served as Deputy Director of the Classification Board since May 2022, and has a background in the visual arts and finance sectors, with qualifications in arts administration and education.

Mr Sharp will act as Director, supported by Mr Dominique Irlinger as acting Deputy Director, until a new permanent Director is appointed.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP:

“On behalf of the Albanese Government, I extend my sincere thanks to Ms Fiona Jolly for her valued service and leadership of the Classification Board over the past two years.

“Ms Jolly has made a significant contribution to the community in this role – providing Australians with trusted and reliable information to guide media choices, particularly when it comes to content shown to children.

“The Government has every confidence Mr Sharp as Acting Director will dutifully execute his responsibilities. Preparations to appoint a new Director are currently underway and the Government will announce a permanent Director in due course.
