Release of NBN Co competitive neutrality report

Today the Productivity Commission published the final report of the Australian Government Competitive Neutrality Complaints Office’s investigation into a complaint made in October 2020 regarding NBN Co’s application of the Australian Government’s competitive neutrality policy.

The Albanese Government thanks the Productivity Commission for its work in developing the report.

The Government notes the unique circumstances of NBN Co as the default provider of wholesale broadband services across Australia. We are committed to delivering a better NBN, which will improve speeds and reliability including for regional Australia.

To deliver on our objectives, we are providing NBN Co with a $2.4 billion equity injection over 4 years to expand fibre and enable access to speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second to nearly 10 million homes and businesses by late 2025.  This is in addition to $480 million that has already been provided to upgrade NBN Co’s fixed wireless network.

The Government is considering the report’s recommendations and the implications for Australian households, businesses and communities.
