$39 million for regional bridge upgrades
The Albanese Government is continuing to improve the safety and productivity of bridges in regional areas by investing $39 million across 18 projects under the Bridges Renewal Program.
This investment includes replacing old timber bridges, improving bridge strength and traffic flow, and funding projects that will lead to higher flood immunity in areas where it’s needed most.
This funding is part of the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment of at least $85 million per year to state, territory and local governments to replace and upgrade bridges to enhance access for local communities and facilitate higher productivity vehicle access.

Quotes attributable to Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Minister, the Hon Kristy McBain MP:
“I’m thrilled to announce another 18 bridges will be upgraded or replaced across Australia under the Bridges Renewal Program, which will bolster access for the commuters that rely on them and improve freight transport through local communities.
“Investment in our bridge infrastructure has never been more important, with many of our communities grappling with ongoing flooding and tightening supply chains.
“These projects make a real difference for local communities and visitors, by supporting them to travel in greater safety and assisting businesses to move their products and deliver services more efficiently.”
