Co-investment delivers better connectivity for Victorians

NBN Co and the Victorian Government have announced the third stage of their landmark co-investment agreement, which is delivering faster broadband speeds and improved services to more homes and businesses in Victoria.

Stage three will enhance the digital infrastructure across the nbn fixed line, fixed wireless and satellite footprint across more than 180 Victorian suburbs and towns, many in regional areas.

This includes:

  • An additional 15 NBN Business Fibre Zones will be established, with a combined coverage area of 2,500 Victorian businesses.
  • Twenty new communication towers will be constructed, bringing NBN fixed wireless services to 39 suburbs and towns currently served by NBN Co’s Sky Muster satellite service.
  • Around 550 eligible Sky Muster satellite premises will be able to order an FTTP service.

The third stage will see 75 per cent of Victorian premises (or 83 per cent of the Victorian fixed-line network) able to access NBN Co’s highest wholesale speed tiers, which deliver wholesale download speeds of between 500 Megabits per second (Mbps) to close to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps).

It will also be supported by the Australian Government’s election commitments to increase speeds on NBN fixed wireless services, increase NBN satellite data allowances, expand world-class fibre access across Australia and boost education opportunities for up to 30,000 families with school-aged students by providing NBN connections for 12 months.

“Reliable, quality, high speed internet is not a luxury or a nice-to-have. It is essential 21st century infrastructure.

The Albanese Government is committed to delivering faster and more reliable broadband. Our partnership with the Andrews’ Government is a step towards delivering for every Victorian.

The NBN was announced in 2009 as a key investment in the nation’s future, and this upgrade continues our commitment to ensure regional, rural and remote communities aren’t left behind”.
