Opportunity to help shape the future of the nation's capital
The Australian Government has commenced an open and transparent selection process to support the appointment of a new board member for the National Capital Authority (NCA).
The NCA Board provides leadership and strategic direction to the NCA in the execution of its statutory functions of fostering awareness of Canberra as Australia’s national capital, managing and enhancing its elements of national significance – now and into the future.
The Board includes the Chair, three other members and the Chief Executive, all appointed by the Governor-General on advice from the Australian Government. Members come from diverse backgrounds including planning, environmental management, national security and diplomatic services and more.
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain, who has responsibility for the NCA, said a merit-based selection process is now under way after a board position was made available recently.
“We are looking for a candidate experienced in government administration, policy implementation, resource management and strategic leadership, with a commitment to deliver tangible outcomes for our nation’s capital,” Minister McBain said.
“The NCA is an important institution with responsibility for developing and maintaining the national capital for future generations of Australians, supporting Canberra’s unique cultural significance and heritage.
“We are calling for applicants from across Australia, as we all have a responsibility for Canberra, to ensure it is protected and promoted for decades to come.
“I would also like to thank outgoing Board member Dennis Richardson AC for his significant contribution to the NCA over five years,” stated Minister McBain.
The role of NCA Board Member is part-time, with the Board meeting six times a year in Canberra to develop effective business strategies as well as foster productive relationships with NCA stakeholders and partners.
Advertising for the positions has now commenced, through national media and online recruitment platforms, with applications open until 30 October 2022.
