Touring performing arts to inspire regional and remote communities

The Albanese Labor Government is increasing arts access to regional and remote Australian communities, with eight performing arts tours to share in over $1.9 million under the latest round of the Australia Council’s Playing Australia program.

The latest projects spanning music, theatre, dance and slam poetry will reach over 117 locations nationally, enabling diverse audiences to experience world class theatre in their own community.

Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said the projects will provide an invaluable opportunity for both seasoned and emerging creatives – showcasing their talent and taking their careers to the next level.

“Performing arts have the power to inspire, captivate and educate. That’s why this Government is so committed to investing in programs that brings the arts to regional and remote Australian communities,” Minister Burke said.

“I’m excited to see Australia’s finest talent on display, and I’m particularly pleased to see authentic First Nations storytelling come to life through these diverse performances.”

Australia Council CEO Adrian Collette AM said:

“This investment through Playing Australia brings leading performing arts to audiences right across Australia. It will support a diverse range of activity, including First Nations storytelling and performances for young audiences,” Mr Collette said.

Playing Australia is administered by the Australia Council and has three grant rounds each year to support net touring and other designated costs associated with performing arts tours.
