The Albanese Government is investing nearly $135 million to deliver new road safety projects across the country as part of the latest round of the Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program (SLRIP).

The SLRIP funds projects that create safer and more productive roads across Australia.

The 45 new projects will improve key transport routes, strengthen local infrastructure and provide safer journeys for all road users.

New South Wales will receive more than $66.7 million for 22 projects, including $5 million to widen and upgrade Montpellier Drive in Wollondilly Shire.

Victoria will receive more than $24 million for eight projects, including designing and upgrading Woorndoo-Streatham Road, Nerrin Nerrin in the state’s southwest.

Queensland will receive more than $20.8 million for nine projects, including designing and building a new bridge over Granite Creek on Springmount Road near Mareeba in the state’s far north.

Western Australia will receive more than $11.7 million for three road upgrade projects: on North Fence Road between Nyabing and Nairibin in the state’s southern inland, Carlton Hill Road in Kununurra, and Barytes Road in Wyndham.

Tasmania will receive more than $8.1 million for two projects, including replacing Savage River Bridge and Guthrie Creek Bridge on Norfolk Road on the state’s upper west coast, and the Upper Natone Road Realignment at Upper Natone, in the state’s north.

West Daly Regional Council in the Northern Territory will receive $3.2 million for the design and upgrade of Woodycupaldiya Road, southwest of Darwin.

The Albanese Government has strengthened Commonwealth road programs, including doubling the Roads to Recovery Program to $1 billion per year, increasing the Black Spot Program from $110 million to $150 million per year, as well as providing $200 million per year for SLRIP.
