Community hub and food centre opens on Sunshine Coast
Thousands of Sunshine Coast families are set to benefit from the new Gateway Community Hub and completed Food Centre Enhancement project which is set to open its doors tomorrow.
The upgraded community centre provides programs and services to the local Caloundra community and aims to bring people together to alleviate hardship.
The $800,000 project has delivered an upgraded Gateway Community Hub and precinct with a refurbished refreshment area, expanded food retail distribution outlet and warehouse renovations, including a new commercial kitchen, shopping outlet and upgraded facade.
The Australian Government committed $600,000 toward the project, which will allow the centre to operate through three warehouses, increasing its capacity six-fold and doubling their ability to support vulnerable families.
Gateway Care has become a resource to multiple Australian charities and community group partners.
The upgrades to the Community Hub, including the additional warehouse space, will increase their ability to salvage unwanted food produce from multiple supermarket chains.
Five jobs were supported during construction of this project, with 16 ongoing roles created in the new centre.
