$177 million to build a better Warrego Highway
The Albanese Government is investing an extra $177 million in the Warrego Highway to improve the safety and capacity of this vital transport link in South East Queensland.
The funding will go towards two new projects on the Warrego Highway; the Mt Crosby Road Interchange and the Bremer River Bridge at Karalee (westbound).
$134.5 million has been committed to deliver upgrades at the Mt Crosby Road Interchange, including building a new two-lane bridge, the extension of the existing ramps and delivery of new shared paths.
The Queensland Government has also committed $137.5 million to the project with major construction expected to start in mid-2025 and early works kicking off in mid-2024.
The Australian and Queensland Governments have also committed $42.5 million each to strengthen the westbound Bremer River Bridge on the Warrego Highway at Karalee.
This project will improve the safety and lifespan of the bridge, and allow current operational traffic restrictions to be lifted. Construction is expected to start in late 2024 and be completed by late 2026.
Through the 2024-25 Budget, the Australian Government is providing over $2.5 billion towards vital land transport infrastructure projects in Queensland to deliver important benefits, including improved safety and reduced travel times.
In total, the Australian Government is investing $21.6 billion over 10 years for transport infrastructure projects across Queensland.
