The Wave Stage 1 is on track with the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments having awarded design and pre-construction contracts for Stage 1 (Rail) of The Wave.
The project will deliver 19 kilometres of new dual-track rail between Beerwah and Caloundra through two construction packages and a signalling contract:
- Beerwah Coast Connect — a consortium of Georgiou, Hatch and Laing O’Rourke — has been awarded the contract for design and pre-construction works across existing sites in Beerwah and surrounding areas (brownfield works).
- CoastalTraX — a consortium of Acciona and Georgiou — will deliver design and pre-construction works across undeveloped land (greenfield works), connecting with the brownfield package east of Steve Irwin Way through to Caloundra.
- Alstom and UGL — awarded the contract to deliver the European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling solution.
The Wave is a key part of the 2032 Delivery Plan and, along with Beerburrum to Nambour rail upgrade, will underpin the largest ever investment in infrastructure on the Sunshine Coast.
Stage 1 will include:
- 19 km of new dual-track rail line;
- New stations at Aura (Bells Creek) and Caloundra;
- Upgrades to Beerwah station.
Over the next 12 months, the Crisafulli Government will work with Beerwah Coast Connect and CoastalTraX to refine detailed designs.
This will include ongoing site investigations and further community consultation on station precincts later this year.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the Australian Government was proud to partner with the Queensland Government to deliver Stage 1 of The Wave.
“The Wave Stage 1 is another example of the Australian and Queensland governments working collaboratively to deliver the infrastructure Australia needs.
“This project will create jobs, boost economic growth and improve connectivity for Sunshine Coast communities and businesses.”
Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said The Wave would transform the Sunshine Coast’s transport network.
“The Wave will be a game changer for Sunshine Coast locals and will help provide a real alternative to sitting on the Bruce when they’re travelling to Brisbane,” Deputy Premier Belijie said.
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said awarding The Wave – Stage 1 contract was a major step forward in delivering a modern and reliable transport network for the Sunshine Coast.
“This milestone demonstrates our commitment to delivering the infrastructure Queensland needs,” Minister Mickelberg said.
“Stage 1 is just the beginning — The Wave will connect people to jobs, education and essential services, now and into the future.”
Senator for Queensland Corinne Mulholland said the Albanese Government was proud to help deliver The Wave Stage 1.
“The Albanese Government is proudly committing $2.75 billion towards Stage 1 of The Wave to help deliver a train line in the booming growth corridor from Beerwah to Caloundra,” Senator Mulholland said.
State Member for Caloundra Kendall Hatcher said The Wave, including a new station at Caloundra and at Bells Creek recognised how fast the region was growing.
“The southern end of the Sunshine Coast is one of the fastest growing regions in the state – delivering two new stations at the heart of that growth is recognition of our commitment to delivering the roads and infrastructure our community needs,” Ms Hatcher said.
