I am incredibly disappointed to hear of the outcome of the QantasLink base review that will result in the closures of Hobart, Mildura and Canberra bases.
These bases are more than regional hubs, they provide local jobs and critical connectivity to our regions.
The Government re-iterates its call for appropriate consultation, no job losses and no reduction in services.
Qantas workers are at the forefront of its operations, we are thinking of those impacted by this decision and their families.
The Government will continue to stand up for those living and working in the regions. I urge Qantas to reconsider this move and engage with those affected.
It’s not enough for Australia’s airlines to just fly in and out of regional communities, they should be a strong community partner and a reliable employer as well.
