The new westbound flyover at the Cessnock Road and New England Highway roundabout at Maitland is one step closer, with investigation work continuing from next week.

The Albanese Government is fully funding the $100 million upgrade, cutting congestion on one of the Hunter’s most infamous roundabouts.

With an eastbound flyover of the roundabout already in place, this project will help finally see a westbound flyover completed, delivering safer and more reliable travel for motorists, better freight movement, as well as supporting housing growth along the Maitland to Cessnock corridor.

Transport for NSW has also identified upgrades to this intersection in the Hunter Strategic Regional Integrated Transport Plan - to help support transport access, overall safety, and the economy in the region.

From Monday 31 August, Transport will undertake geotechnical and survey investigations on and around the New England Highway at the Cessnock Road roundabout to further inform the project for up to three months, weather permitting.

The work will include detailed surveys of the road surface, road corridor, drainage, as well as locating existing underground services and using machinery to investigate geotechnical conditions in the project area.

Work will be carried out between 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and where required some night work will be carried out between 6pm to 6am, Sunday to Thursday. No work will be carried out on public holidays.

Transport for NSW is working with the Australian Government to expedite solutions for this important upgrade.

Transport will keep the community informed and consult with key stakeholders as planning and investigations continue.
