Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport will be the first airport in the country to use the new web-based Australia Travel Declaration.
It will be available to passengers arriving on the first international flight on Monday 26 October.
The Australian Government’s new digital declaration form will extend access to travellers arriving on any airline to Western Sydney International Airport.
The Government has committed more than $56 million over the next four years from 2026/2027 to roll out the web-form format of the declaration for all international airports and seaports, as part of a broader traveller modernisation project.
The web-form offers an alternative to the paper incoming passenger card and builds on the collaborative pilot between the Australian Border Force, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Qantas.
The Australia Travel Declaration allows international travellers to provide their immigration details and customs and biosecurity declarations digitally before arriving in Australia.
Travellers, including families, can complete the web-form at a time of their convenience up to 72 hours before travel, and are issued a single QR code to enable a seamless exit from the airport.
Providing declaration information digitally and earlier will help streamline passenger facilitation, assist ABF and biosecurity officers to identify potential threats, target screening and update declarations rapidly to adapt to global risks and events.
The Australia Travel Declaration will be rolled out to all international airports and seaports in Australia in a phased approach over the next 12 to 18 months, with ongoing industry collaboration to co-design in-app capabilities.
From 1 January to 30 September 2026, more than 477,000 travellers submitted an Australia Travel Declaration across over 8,400 eligible flights, including more than 118,000 travellers who made a biosecurity declaration.
The paper card will remain an option as well for those travellers who do not have access to the web-form or a digital device or who prefer the manual process.
