Kingston is set to be transformed with new housing, transport links and community facilities, as the Albanese Government invests $2.8 million to make the Canberra Railway Station precinct housing-ready.

It builds on the Barr Government’s $3 million investment in planning, engagement, design and tendering to shape the precinct’s future.

The $5.8 million joint investment will see the inner-south precinct repurposed into construction‑ready land for 5000 new housing units in Kingston and Fyshwick. The precinct is walking distance from the Jerrabomberra wetlands, the Kingston Foreshore and the R2 rapid bus to Civic.

Community and cultural facilities on the former landfill in the north west corner of the site will give the precinct a distinct identity and support the needs of the local community.

Alongside the new homes, new business spaces will support over a thousand new jobs across commercial, technology and service industries.

The project will support productive partnerships between the Suburban Land Agency, NSW Government, developers, the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust, and the Canberra Institute of Technology.

The funding is being provided under the Australian Government’s $150 million urban Precincts and Partnerships Program (uPPP), which is supporting transformative investment in urban precincts that grow economies and support local communities.

This program demonstrates the Government’s commitment to delivering new homes, and working with communities to improve their local suburbs.
