The Albanese Government is empowering Australians to engage with the shifting media landscape and stay safe online with our National Media Literacy Strategy.

An Australian first, the strategy will explore evidence-based initiatives that help Australians navigate the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly complex and changing digital world.

Media literacy – the ability to think critically about news and media and spot false or misleading content – is an essential skill for Australians now and into the future.

Following a competitive tender process, Whereto Research has been engaged to work with the Government to develop the strategy in consultation with academic, industry and community stakeholders.

Whereto Research has partnered with the University of Melbourne to deliver the strategy, which will consider the impacts of AI and the needs of vulnerable groups.

The Strategy is part of the Albanese Government’s $153.5 million investment in the News Media Assistance Program – supporting a strong and diverse media sector as a vital element of a healthy democracy.
