Federal Member for Solomon
South Darwin Rugby League Football Club has received a major upgrade to facilities at Warren Park thanks to an Australian Government Community Development Grant.
Member for Solomon Natasha Griggs said the Australian Government contributed $99,000 towards the $115,000 upgrade under the Community Development Grants Programme.
“The upgraded facilities will provide players, referees and families with a professional and safe environment for a range of different sporting codes,” Mrs Griggs said.
“The Australian Government is committed to funding community projects that have a longer term positive impact on the social and economic infrastructure of communities.”
Mrs Griggs joined players and officials for the official opening of the new facilities at the club's annual player registration day.
Federal Minister for Regional Development, Fiona Nash, said the Australian Government is providing almost $350 million to community projects through the Community Development Grants Programme.
“Here in the electorate of Solomon, there is the Construction of Stage 1 of the Parap Leisure and Sports Centre project, to which the Australian Government is providing funding of $4.48 million,” Senator Nash said.
Northern Territory Minister for Sport and Recreation Nathan Barrett said the project will enable greater usage of the facility for football and other sporting codes.
“The opportunity to host more events will attract visitors to the region, generating income for local businesses and boosting the region's economy,” Mr Barrett said.
The facilities upgrade at Warren Park started in November 2015 and was completed in February 2016.
