The Australian Government has announced the appointment of Mr David Gallagher as new Deputy Chair of the Regional Development Australia (RDA) Committee Far West, for a two-year term.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash and New South Wales Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro said RDA committees play a key role in growing stronger regions across the nation and ensuring that all three tiers of government work together as productively as possible.

“RDA committees advise on priority activities that have the potential to unlock regional economic development and improve the productivity of their regions,” Senator Nash said.

“The committees provide advice to the Government on critical issues affecting each region and are an important mechanism to increase access to Australian Government programmes in their communities.

“The committees also assist local community stakeholders to develop project proposals and direct them to appropriate public and/or private funding sources—including the $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.”

Mr Barilaro said Mr Gallagher's appointment to the committee will support the RDA in its role to provide advice on economic development opportunities in the region.

“Through his experience as Deputy Mayor of Broken Hill Council and serving time in the NSW Police Force for over 30 years, David brings a wealth of experience to this role and I am confident in his ability to deliver for the Far West region,” Mr Barilaro said.

“I would like to thank the former Deputy Chair, Mrs Susan Andrews, for her leadership and contribution to the community through the work of the RDA Far West.”

Regional Development Australia consists of a national network of 55 committees designed to focus on regional economic development and facilitate local projects that make a difference in local communities.
