Governments working together will deliver Nowra bridge
Today's announcement of a match in funding from the New South Wales Liberals and Nationals Government will help deliver the much-needed Nowra Bridge, the Federal Government says.
Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack welcomed the funding, saying it will help deliver the new bridge Nowra deserves.
“By working together, the Federal and New South Wales Liberals and Nationals Governments will make the community's long-held dream of a new Nowra Bridge a reality,” Mr McCormack said.
“I welcome the funding, which matches the Federal Government's commitment of $155 million, announced in the recent Budget.”
Federal Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis said the community's voice has been heard.
“I have been working on the Nowra Bridge project with the community for five years, taking up our case in Canberra and making sure our voice was heard,” Mrs Sudmalis said.
“The recent Federal Budget had the Nowra Bridge front and centre, and today's announcement from the State Government means we can get on and build it.
“This announcement is a credit to the many locals, community groups and advocates who worked with us to put the case forward.
“Those who signed my petition, the small businesses and trucking companies who came to see me and the tourist economy which so desperately needs this new bridge have all helped me deliver it and we can all share in this fantastic news.”
State Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Andrew Constance confirmed matching funding today on the $310 million project, alongside local MPs Shelley Hancock and Gareth Ward.
