Dedicated freight air service flights and roads funding

Community update

SLCU001/2019

19 October 2019

Dear Residents,

I know how important freight is to your community, and I am delighted to let you know that the Australian Government is providing funds to support some dedicated freight flights to Norfolk Island over the next few months.

This will make it easier for businesses and residents to import the products and goods they need, and support the local economy to function and grow.

In total, the Government will support six flights between now and June 2019. Preparations for the first freight flight are well underway.

I am also pleased to let you know that the Government is including Norfolk Island in the Roads to Recovery Program from 2019–20 onwards.

The Norfolk Island Regional Council has been granted $331,715 for the new five year funding period from 1 July 2019. The program gives the Council the freedom to target road investments that will stimulate local employment and help maintain the safety and quality of the Island's roads.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, or a particular matter you would like an update on, please contact the Administrator's office.
