Appointment of Executive Director of Norfolk Island

Media Release

24 June 2015

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Gesling as Executive Director of Norfolk Island.

Mr Gesling's background as an accomplished senior executive in local government means he is well positioned to help steer the transition of the Administration of Norfolk Island to a Norfolk Island Regional Council from 1 July 2016.

Working closely with the Administrator, the Hon Gary Hardgrave, the Executive Director will help ensure essential services continue to be delivered to the community, while also supporting administration staff throughout the transition period.

The Administration of Norfolk Island will ensure the day-to-day management of the Island will continue and Norfolk Island laws continue to apply.

The Australian Government is committed to driving economic growth on Norfolk Island and ensuring local residents have access to the same level of essential services and entitlements as those residing on the mainland and other external territories.

We will continue to actively and regularly consult with the Norfolk Island community to ensure all residents have significant input into their future governance.
