Assistant Minister for Infrastructure, The Hon Jamie Briggs MP, and Melissa Ward, Chair of the Norfolk Island Advisory Council, today announced the appointment of Wally Beadman, Duncan Evans, Eve Semple and PJ Wilson to the Norfolk Island Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council will provide a strong local voice and will work in partnership with the Australian Government to deliver the best outcomes possible for the Norfolk Island community.

Establishment of the Advisory Council is an essential step in the transition to a Regional Council and will ensure the Norfolk Island community is actively engaged in shaping and delivering reform for Norfolk Island.

Chair of the Advisory Council, Melissa Ward welcomed the appointment of four strong candidates who offered a broad range of skills and experience in local tourism, transport, environment, business, culture and heritage.

The Assistant Minister and Chair thanked everyone who had put forward an expression of interest or engaged in the nomination process.

The first meeting of the Advisory Council is scheduled for 1 July 2015.

The Advisory Council is an interim body, established under the Norfolk Island Act 1979 to represent the Norfolk Island community until the Norfolk Island Regional Council commences on 1 July 2016.
