JB011/2015

16 February 2015

The Australian Government will deliver up to $1.5 million in grant funding to invest in infrastructure in the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT), with applications for Round Two of the IOT Community Development Grants Programme officially launched.

The programme will deliver the funding for projects in the Territories of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

This funding delivers targeted community projects which will strengthen economic development, increase productivity and create local jobs, improving the islands' livability.

Building on the success of Round One, this Australian Government investment will increase economic opportunities while supporting the unique environment of the Indian Ocean Territories.

The Administrator of the Indian Ocean Territories, Mr Barry Haase, the Government's representative on the islands, will play an important role in the delivery of this important Programme.

The Administrator will partner with the Indian Ocean Territories Regional Development Organisation, a community representative body, to identify the need for projects in the community and relative priority of proposals.

The Australian Government recognises the unique needs of the Indian Ocean Territories and is committed to supporting community organisations and small businesses for the long term.

Further information about Round Two of the Indian Ocean Territories Community Development Grants Programme is available from: www.regional.gov.au/territories/indian_ocean/iot_grants.aspx.

Applications for the Indian Ocean Territories Community Development Grants Programme will open on 20 February 2015.
