Australian Government signs $7.5 Million Funding Agreement for Fleurieu Swimming Pool

Media Release

JB013/2014

07 March 2014

The Australian Government will today sign the $7.5 million funding agreement for the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre project at Ocean Road, Hayborough.

Residents of the Fleurieu Peninsula have been calling for an aquatic centre for more than 30 years—and today is a key milestone in delivering this long awaited project.

In December 2013, Minister for Infrastructure, Hon Warren Truss MP and I wrote to the City of Victor and Alexandrina Councils confirming that an offer for the project was being extended, subject to formalisation of a Grant Funding Agreement. This agreement has now been approved for implementation, with construction works programmed to commence in 2015.

Current forecasts anticipate that the facility will be fully operational in March 2017.

I will today visit the project site at Ocean Road, Hayborough with Mayor Graham Philp of the City of Victor Harbor and Mayor Kym McHugh of the Alexandrina Council.

I have fought for the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre since my election in 2008. The signing of this funding agreement formalises the Australian Government's commitment to the project and its progression.

The Australian Government is delivering this funding through the Community Development Grants Programme.
