The efforts of Australian veterans in defending our nation have been recognised today with the opening of a new war memorial at the Sunnybank RSL.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the Indian Heritage Memorial commemorates Australians of Indian heritage who have fought for Australia in all conflicts.
“We are a nation of many cultures, and the efforts of our soldiers in defending our values is a gratitude we all share as a nation,” Mr Chester said.
“This memorial focusses on those soldiers with an Indian heritage who have lost their lives in conflict, along with the many more who came home but made their own personal sacrifice.”
Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta said the Coalition Government was investing $30,000 into the memorial.
“As a nation we cannot learn the lessons of the past without preserving our history, and this memorial is a testament to the courage of our young men and women,” Mr Vasta said.
“This is an important memorial I am delighted this project is complete.”
The Sunnybank RSL Sub-Branch also committed $4,700 toward this project.
