Children from Blyth in South Australia, will have lots of fun in the shade this summer thanks to the installation of a sun safe playground.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the new shaded playground is a perfect place for kids to enjoy their time outside.
“With temperatures in summer expected to soar above the mid-thirties, it’s important for kids to have a safe place to play,” Mr Chester said.
“Research shows there are life-long health benefits from staying out of the hot summer sun, and children playing here will enjoy those benefits through into adulthood.
“I want to help build better regions, and investing in the health of regional kids is an important part of that.”
Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey attended the unveiling of the sun safe playground today and said that the completion of the all-weather colour-bond shelter is a great outcome for the community.
“The Coalition Government has worked with the Blyth community to ensure local children have access to a playground which is out of the heat of the summer sun,” Mr Ramsey.
Blyth Management Committee Treasurer Janet Zweck said it has been an exciting time to see the development of the Blyth RSL Playground in the last 3 months, which now provides a stimulating place for children to be outside and protected.
“To see children come racing from their car or off the bus to get on the play equipment and have such fun, brings a smile to my face. Without funding from Australian Government this community project most likely would not have evolved,” Ms Zweck said.
This project was funded by the Federal Coalition Government and Blyth Management Committee Inc. contributing $37,000 and $6,426 to the project respectively.
