The current Director of National Parks, Sally Barnes, was today appointed as the Chief Executive to the National Capital Authority (NCA).

Acting Minister for Local Government and Territories Darren Chester said Ms Barnes is a highly experienced and respected leader in the public sector and will be a great addition to the NCA.

“Ms Barnes will bring new energy to the NCA as it ensures Canberra is a national capital all Australians can be proud of,” Mr Chester said.

“The NCA performs a special role on behalf of the Australian Government as manager and trustee of its interests in the national capital.

“I congratulate Ms Barnes on her appointment to such a crucial role.”

Ms Barnes' appointment fills the vacancy created following the resignation of former NCA Chief Executive, Malcolm Snow, in August 2017.

Ms Barnes was previously the Chief Executive of the Office of Environment and Heritage in the NSW Government.

Ms Barnes is a Board Member of Kakadu, Uluru-Kata Tjuta and Booderee National Parks Board of Management, and was recently awarded the ACT Excellence in Women's Leadership award for 2017.

Ms Barnes will take up her new role on 11 February 2018.
