Tony Pasin

Federal Member for Barker Chair of the South Australian Black Spot Consultative Panel

  • Funding to deliver 36 targeted improvements to Black Spots across the state
  • Targeted sites have recorded 10 fatal and 164 injury crashes in recent years
  • The Black Spot Programme delivers safer roads across the nation by targeting dangerous locations through measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts

The Coalition Government is delivering on its commitment to reduce crashes on regional roads by investing $11.3 million to South Australian roads through the national Black Spot Programme.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester, alongside Member for Barker and Chair of the South Australian Black Spot Consultative Panel Tony Pasin, today announced $11.3 million in funding for 36 Black Spot projects across South Australia.

“The Coalition Government is committed to building safer roads across the nation and the Black Spot Programme plays a key part in that by targeting crash hotspots for funding,” Mr Chester said.

“The 36 Black Spot projects being funded across South Australia will make an important contribution to reducing the national road toll.”

Mr Pasin said the investment in Black Spot projects would deliver safer roads in 25 local government areas throughout South Australia.

“Funding has been allocated to road locations that have been identified as high priority, with 10 fatal and 164 injury crashes recorded at these sites,” Mr Pasin said.

“The Black Spot panel that I chair reviews priorities for the programme, and includes representatives from the Royal Automobile Association of SA, the Motor Accident Commission, the SA Road Transport Association, the SA Freight Council and state and local government.”

The Australian Government has committed $500 million to the Black Spot Programme from 2014–15 to 2018–19, including an additional $200 million over two years from 2015–16 to improve road safety across the nation.
