QantasLink set for take-off at Wellcamp Airport

Media Release

03 September 2014

QantasLink will be the first airline to service Toowoomba's new Wellcamp Airport.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the announcement was especially good news for local business and tourism communities.

“The Airport, located 15 minutes from the Toowoomba CBD, has the potential to cater for large passenger jets and freight transport,” Mr Truss said.

“Subject to the airport receiving appropriate regulatory approvals, QantasLink expects to begin a domestic passenger flight service to Wellcamp from November this year.”

Mr Truss said Wellcamp Airport is ideally situated to service the growing south west Queensland region.

“It is also near the planned $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project, which will receive $1.285 billion in Australian Government investment funding,” he said.

“This proximity to the expanding local freight transport industry will ideally situate the airport to grow.”

The Airport, scheduled for completion in the coming months, is the first major greenfield airport to be built in Australia since Tullamarine in the 1960s.
