Sporting clubs in Ocean Grove will enjoy new purpose-built sporting facilities with the opening of the upgraded Shell Road Reserve Pavilion today.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Australian Government is committed to supporting local communities.
“Local sporting clubs in Ocean Grove can now enjoy the up-to-date facilities they deserve thanks to the Australian Government's $3.5 million contribution towards this project,” Senator Nash said.
“Nationwide, the Community Development Grants Programme is providing almost $350 million to support key infrastructure projects, like this one, to promote stable, secure and viable local economies.”
Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson, who opened the new pavilion, said this was a wonderful achievement for the Ocean Grove community.
“There is a real sense of excitement in the community, particularly amongst members of the four local clubs, Ocean Grove Football & Netball Club, Surfside Waves Soccer Club and Ocean Grove Cricket Club,” Ms Henderson said.
“I am so proud to see this election commitment being delivered with our Federal contribution of $3.5m.
“I want to thank the many members of the Ocean Grove community with whom I've worked since 2009 to make this dream a reality. This achievement is many years in the making.”
Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong Darryn Lyons said the upgrade includes improved cricket, football and netball facilities.
“I'm looking forward to seeing Shell Road Reserve lit up and buzzing with activity over the coming months, with local sportspeople making the most of the new infrastructure,” Cr Lyons said.
The Community Development Grants Programme is administered by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
