Future sporting stars of Inverleigh, near Geelong, now have a brighter future following the installation of new lighting at the Inverleigh Sporting Complex.
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the Coalition Government's investment had provided a significant boost to grassroots sport.
“This project will upgrade lighting on Oval to meet AFL Victoria Guidelines and ensure that residents have access to every opportunity they can to play sport,” Dr McVeigh said.
Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson said the Coalition Government was proud to fund this upgrade which has delivered new floodlights, new light towers, power supply, cabling and underground works.
“The complex will provide a space for evening markets and concerts, encouraging people to get out and about, which will improve social cohesion within the community,” Ms Henderson said.
Mayor of Golden Plains Shire Helena Kirby said she was pleased with the lighting upgrade to the Inverleigh Sporting Complex and the many benefits it delivers to the local community.
“Improved lighting allows the sporting complex to host night matches and improve training capability and safety; it will also play a part in attracting new players, increasing participation in sport and increasing spectators,” Cr Kirby said.
The project was jointly funded with the Coalition Government investing $220,000 and Golden Plains Shire Council $1,221.
