The region's economy across the Manning and Hastings areas has received a significant economic boost with the Federal Coalition Government's $2.1 million investment in more than $7-million worth of industry projects delivering more local jobs under the Regional Jobs and Investment Packages.
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the initiative was part of the Federal Coalition Government's commitment to stimulate jobs and drive economic growth across the North Coast.
“After an extensive assessment process involving strong community input, six projects totalling $2.1 million will be delivered in Lyne, providing a range of employment and investment opportunities,” Dr McVeigh said.
“The Federal Liberals and Nationals in Government are committed to strengthening regional Australia and as part of that commitment it is essential that we help regions like the Mid North Coast unlock their potential by investing in local business and projects to stimulate growth and greater employment opportunities.
“Our Government is backing local business and local communities to get ahead. Local Member Dr David Gillespie's passionate campaigning for strengthening regional Australia has seen grants of $2.1 million for local businesses which will create jobs for the region,” Dr McVeigh said.
Dr Gillespie said he was pleased to see the Federal Coalition Government investing in key projects that would allow the region to continue to prosper and thrive.
“I am very proud our region secured a Regional Jobs and Investment Package, with the six successful businesses highlighting both the innovation and future business prowess of the region,” Dr Gillespie said.
“We're investing in the Taree Transport Terminal to support the movement of freight between Sydney and Brisbane, improving operational efficiency, safety, the ability to meet future long haul transport needs and reduce the need for truck drivers to use public rest area facilities—creating 50 jobs and 60 jobs post-construction.
“Other projects include an advanced composite manufacturing facility at Oxley Island, and an upgraded bamboo manufacturing facility in Taree that will create 40 jobs during construction and 25 jobs post-construction. It's great to see so many jobs created in this region.”
