  • Kilkivan's Great Horse Ride Festival to be extended from three to five days
  • Festival also features celebrity chef events and guided tours of the region
  • The Coalition Government has invested $13,899 in the project

Locals and equestrian fans are celebrating the new extended five day Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Festival at Kilkivan.

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the festival was extended from three days to five days thanks to a Coalition Government grant.

“Expansion of the festival has allowed for a number of new events, including a dinner prepared by celebrity chef Matt Golinski,” Dr McVeigh said

“The Coalition Government is proud to support events which celebrate the versatility and beauty of our regions and drive tourism interest. The festival enhances community pride and boosts economic activity, creating five jobs for the duration of the event and one ongoing role.”

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien said the activities planned for this year's festival were expected to attract large crowds from around the region.

“With a live guided tour of the night sky by professional astronomer James Barclay, a forum providing tips for equine nutrition and a quilt show in Kilkivan's Public Hall, the two-day extension of this festival will really add to the experience,” Mr O'Brien said.

“The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride is a fantastic event and I encourage everyone to come along and contribute to its success and enjoy all it has to offer.”

The $13,899 project was fully funded under the Coalition Government's Building Better Regions Fund, which is designed to support efforts to improve the longer term viability of regional communities around Australia.
