One month to go: Stronger Communities Programme
02 October 2015
With less than a month to go until applications close, Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has encouraged the nation's interested local organisations to apply for between $5,000 and $20,000 in funding through the Federal Government's Stronger Communities Programme.
“The Stronger Communities Programme is a fantastic initiative which will help fund small projects which contribute to making local communities even more vibrant,” Mr McCormack said.
“I strongly urge Local Government and incorporated not-for-profit organisations to present their local Federal MPs with good ideas about projects which need funding.
“Each federal electorate has been allocated $150,000 and the vast array of projects which I'm sure will be put forward is certain to build capacity in those communities.”
Criteria for the programme is as follows:
- Local government and incorporated not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply. Schools and P&C Associations are ineligible for this particular programme.
- Grants of between $5,000 and up to a maximum of $20,000 are available.
- Applicants are required to confirm matched funding in cash or in-kind on at least a dollar-for-dollar basis.
- Funding of $150,000 per electorate per year will be allocated for two years, commencing 2015–16.
“The Government understands the importance of supporting sustainable and vibrant communities, particularly in rural and regional areas, and wants to give the all-important community groups a boost,” Mr McCormack said.
“Applications close at the end of October so I strongly encourage all communities to get involved and submit their applications.
“The earlier we receive applications, the sooner we can make a positive difference and have the investment roll into vital community projects,” Mr McCormack said.
Federal Members of Parliament have each created a community consultation committee to assist with their electorate's $150,000 allocation. If you have an idea for a local project please contact your federal member.
Applications for the Stronger Communities Programme close on 30 October 2015. For further information, please visit http://investment.infrastructure.gov.au/funding/scp/.
