Stage two renovations on the Wanda Surf Life Saving Club are now complete with the modern facilities officially reopening today.
Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the Australian Government provided $100,000 towards this project through the Community Development Grants Programme.
This investment is part of the Australian Government's $350 million Community Development Grants Programme, which is delivering community projects right across Australia,” Mr McCormack said.
“We are committed to helping local government deliver projects such as this one that have a longer term positive impact on the social and economic infrastructure of communities.”
Treasurer and Federal Member for Cook Scott Morrison, who cut the ribbon at the official opening today, said project works included renovations to both the club house's interior and exterior.
“The club provides the perfect venue to host community events, public meetings and gatherings and in return offers the Club with the means to generate a small amount of revenue for ongoing maintenance and activities,” Mr Morrison said.
“Gymnasium facilities and an education room where our volunteer life guards and nippers can undertake training opportunities will make them more capable and motivated to keep our waters safe for beach goers.
“The club house now also includes provision for the Surf School, kiosk and storage.”
Sutherland Shire Council Mayor Carmelo Pesce said Council was pleased to have partnered with all three levels of government and the Wanda Surf Life Saving Club to deliver this significant community project.
“Locally, 40 jobs were created during construction with an additional 10 ongoing jobs expected to be created as a result of the project,” Cr Parker said.
This project was jointly funded with contributions provided by the Australian Government ($100,000), New South Wales Government ($73,000), Sutherland Shire Council ($70,232) and the Wanda Surf Life Saving Club ($2,220,667).
