Federal Member for Herbert

The Australian Government is delivering on its election commitments to the electorate of Herbert, with today's announcement that the Townsville Showgrounds Amenities upgrade is now complete.

Federal Member for Herbert, Ewen Jones MP said that the Australian Government delivered $500,000 to the Townsville Pastoral Agricultural and Industrial Association for the upgrade.

“The project works involved the construction and fit-out of two new amenities facilities at the Townsville Showgrounds incorporating restrooms and a mothers' room,” Mr Jones said.

“The Townsville Show is some of the best value family entertainment our city has to offer, but the amenities blocks were truly showing their age. Now that the upgrade is complete, well before this year's Townsville Show, the showgrounds will be able to cater for more people at the venue.

“The mothers' room is a most welcome addition not only by myself and the Show Society, but by the parents and families who attend the Townsville Show and other events at the Showgrounds in their tens of thousands every year.

“This is community infrastructure at its very heart and shows that the Australian Government is delivering for the people of Townsville.”

Townsville Show Society Manager Chris Condon said he was pleased to see the investment into the Townsville Showgrounds by the Australian Government.

“These modern facilities are the best you can get and for the first time we have a dedicated mothers' room. This is great news for the Show Society,” Mr Condon said.

Mr Briggs said the funding was another example of the Australian Government's commitment to building productive infrastructure for communities across Australia.

“We are getting on with the job of delivering $313.9 million towards almost 300 community projects across Australia.”

The programme is administered by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development which undertakes a value with relevant money assessment of each project against the programme guidelines to ensure the efficient, effective, ethical, and economical use with relevant money.

Unlike the previous Labor Government, the Coalition delivers on its election commitments.
