Joint release with:

Hon. Duncan Gay MLC

NSW Minister for Roads and Freight
Leader of the Government Legislative Council

Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Jamie Briggs and NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay today announced that the design contract for stage two of The Northern Road upgrade at Bringelly has been awarded to GHD.

GHD will now design the 11 kilometre stage two section of the upgrade from Peter Brock Drive at Oran Park to Mersey Road at Bringelly.

This is an important milestone in the delivery of the joint $3.5 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan that will boost the regions productive capacity and capitalise on the economic gains from developing an airport at Badgerys Creek.

Our commitment to expand 31 km of The Northern Road to four lanes from Narellan to the M4 Motorway will reduce congestion and slash travel times in Sydney's South West Growth Centre.

As residential and commercial development continues to grow, The Northern Road upgrade will form one of the main arterial transport corridors in Sydney's south west.

This upgrade will increase road capacity by widening The Northern Road, duplicating bridges over Narellan Creek and Thompsons Creek, and improving facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

Detailed design is well under way for the three kilometre stage one section from Camden Valley Way to Peter Brock Drive.

Construction on stage one is expected to start in late 2015 and be completed by late 2017.

The Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan also includes $509 million to upgrade Bringelly Road, $1.25 billion to build a new 14 km motorway between the M7 Motorway and The Northern Road and further funding to improve local roads.
