  • Upgrade includes solar panels, air-filtration units and improves security and storage
  • Men's shed has over 300 members; improvements done by current members
  • Coalition Government invested $22,612 to fully fund the project

Members of the Mt Gravatt Men's Shed now have improved facilities to do their woodwork, carpentry, welding leatherwork and small motor maintenance after the completion of a $22,000 upgrade.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said he was pleased to see the project complete because Men's Sheds reduce social isolation, enhance self-esteem, as well as improve access to health information for many members of the community.

“Men's Sheds are another way the Coalition Government is investing in all our communities, and it's great to see this important upgrade complete,” Mr Chester said.

“The Mt Gravatt Men's Shed is very well used, with more than 300 members who get the benefits of companionship, mentorship, and learning new skills, and the more than 9,000 visitors who come to the facility annually.”

Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta said the upgrade, which the Coalition Government fully funded, would make the Mt Gravatt Men's Shed an even better place for men to come to.

“The men who come here participate in over 20 activities including woodwork, carpentry, small motor maintenance and leatherwork. All new installations for the upgrade were completed by current men's shed members, which is great to see,” Mr Vasta said.

“The upgrade will make the shed more sustainable and far more comfortable with the installation of solar panelling and air-filtration units, as well as better security and storage.”
