  • South Australia allocated $5.47 million under latest Black Spot Programme funding
  • On average, black spot projects reduce fatal and injury crashes by 30%

The Turnbull-Joyce Government is upgrading 24 roads with a crash history across South Australia, under the Black Spot Programme funding.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester, alongside Member for Barker and Chair of the South Australian Black Spot Consultative Panel Tony Pasin, today announced $5.47 million in funding for the two dozen road upgrades.

“The Australian Government knows the difference safer roads makes to the community and these ‘black spot’ roads will be substantially improved over the next 12 months,” Mr Chester said.

“On average completed Black Spot road projects reduce fatalities and injuries by 30 per cent.”

Mr Pasin said the Australian Government's investment in these black spot projects will deliver safer roads in 14 local government areas throughout South Australia.

“Safety will be significantly improved in these 24 black spot projects across South Australia, with six fatal and 112 injury crashes recorded at these sites,” Mr Pasin said.

The Australian Government would like to thank the panel, which reviews priorities for the Black Spot programme, including representatives from the Royal Automobile Association of SA, the Motor Accident Commission, the SA Road Transport Association, the SA Freight Council and state and local government.”
