Upgrades to Pialligo Avenue and Oaks Estate Road
17 March 2016
Joint release with:
ACT Minister for Transport and Municipal Services
Senator for Australian Capital Territory
Works have started on the intersection of Pialligo Road and Oaks Estate Road to improve safety and traffic flow along the two roads.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the Australian Government was fully funding the $836,000 upgrade through the Black Spot Programme.
“The programme is a crucial part of the Australian Government's commitment to reduce crashes on our roads,” Mr Chester said.
“Nationally, the Australian Government has committed $500 million to the Black Spot Programme from 2014–15 to 2018–19, including an additional $200 million over two years from 2015–16.”
Senator for ACT, and Chair of the ACT Black Spot Consultative Panel, Zed Seselja said the upgrade would benefit motorists and other road users in the area, especially the local residents in Oaks Estate.
“Works will include the installation of traffic lights to enhance safety at this busy intersection by allowing traffic from Oaks Estate Road to access Pialligo Avenue with greater ease,” Senator Seselja said.
“Traffic heading east will also be able to access Oaks Estate Road without having to pick a gap in the oncoming traffic as the signals will now control this movement.”
Minister for Transport and Municipal Services Meegan Fitzharris said works were expected to be completed by mid-June 2016.
“There are no expected road closures during these works, however there will be some changed traffic arrangements including lane closures and reduced speed limits in place,” Ms Fitzharris said.
“I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while works get underway.”
