A $649 000 roadworks contract has been awarded to upgrade three floodways on the Gammon Ranges Road between Copley and Balcanoona, South Australia.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the contract to undertake the stabilisation and sealing of the floodways on the road, south-west of Nepabunna, was awarded to Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd.

“These works will improve drainage and strengthen the road surface, which will increase the ability of the floodways to withstand traffic and reduce damage caused to the road during wet-weather events,” Mr Chester said.

“This will ensure that regular users of Gammon Ranges Road—including local pastoralists, tourists and heavy vehicle operators—will be provided with improved levels of safety and accessibility.”

Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey MP said the floodway upgrade works commenced this week and were expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.

“Every effort will be made to minimise the impact on road users, with works being undertaken between 7.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, until completed,” Mr Ramsey said.

“The road will remain open to traffic, with a 25 km/h speed restriction in place while workers are on site.”

This upgrade is funded under the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery Programme.
